Welcome

Our congress is the premier event for researchers and professionals involved in genetic improvement of livestock.

Delegates from around the world gather every four years to attend the scientific program and to network with colleagues. This 11th WCGALP builds on previous successful congresses in Madrid (Spain, 1974 and 1982), Lincoln (USA, 1986), Edinburgh (UK, 1990), Guelph (Canada, 1994), Armidale (Australia, 1998), Montpellier (France, 2002), Belo Horizonte (Brazil, 2006), Leipzig (Germany, 2010) and Vancouver (Canada, 2014).

The Local Organising Committee recognises that New Zealand is a long way from most places in the world and we will be working hard to ensure you experience the best of New Zealand's science, culture and food to make the journey worthwhile. Through our field trips on Wednesday 14 February we will give delegates the opportunity to see first-hand the genetic improvement of livestock (and maybe trees and grapes) by breeders who are passionate about improving profitability.

We have coordinated efforts with the organisers of the ICAR Annual Conference which will be held at the same venue in Auckland 7-11 February 2018 on the expectation that some of you will be interested in attending both meetings.  Please click here to visit the ICAR 2018 website.

In 2018, the Interbull Annual Meeting will be held as part of the ICAR and WCGALP meeting, which will ensure again that there will be joint WCGALP-Interbull sessions.  Please click here to visit the 2018 Interbull Annual Meeting information.

Of course, we hope you will take the time to visit other parts of New Zealand either before or after the meeting. Once you are here, make the most of seeing our compact and exciting country.

Because of New Zealand's geographic isolation, we would appreciate your help to ensure that the 11th WCGALP meeting in 2018 is widely advertised. To assist us, please download our PowerPoint and use it in your talks.
